SGM’s Q-7 on AC/DC “Rock or Bust” World Tour 2015

Australian rock legends AC/DC are currently on their world tour with their 16th studio album Rock or Bust, released in November 2014. 60 powerful Q-7 flood blind strobes form part of the equipment list, adding the punchy LED strobe effect over the stage; among other places flashing from the devil horns.

Lighting Director, Cosmo Wilson, has worked with over 40 bands including The Rolling Stones, Scorpions and Iron Maiden. AC/DC has been on his reference list since 1990, when asked by lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe to direct. Since then, Wilson has directed over 600 AC/DC shows.

Cosmo Wilson tells about his first encounter with the rock band in an interview for EventElevator: “The first time I worked with them in 1990 when that tour [red. The Razors Edge] started, they did a full-blown rehearsal and they played their hearts out to nobody. It really showed we how much that show meant to them, so that was my first taste of AC/DC live, - seeing them in an empty arena at a dress rehearsal going wow; these guys mean business!”

Wilson represents the old school rock’n’roll light design still running the shows like a conventional show – like a rock rig. This gives the intensity hit on stage desired also by the band. He describes his design for AC/DC as “chunky beef”, where the light goes with the music. Light as warm as whiskey flows from the headlights, while razor cut strobe effects cut through the fat beams.
