American TV channel MTV recently hosted its most watched annual event – its Video Music Awards show (VMA), which has been running since 1984. This year, the event took place at the Microsoft Theatre in L.A. hosted by Miley Cyrus.
For the MTV Video Music Awards Pre-show, hosted by Nick Jonas and Kelly Osbourne, and streamed live to MTV’s target audience of teenagers and young adults, the stage was well-equipped with the decorative graphic 3D tubes from SGM.
This creative display functioned as an overhead vertical zip effect for opening act by Walk the Moon and for Todrick Hall. Los Angeles based Acey Decy Lighting supplied the SGM LED tubes for the show. The package consisted on 30 x LT-100 1-metre tubes and 16 x LT-200 2-metre tubes suspended from the ceiling in different levels and controlled by 6 x TLD-612 A drivers with Art-Net interface – also from SGM’s portfolio.
Each tube is loaded with RGB LEDs at a 35 mm pixel pitch – all DMX drivable and individually controllable, making the lighting designer’s possibilities close to endless when manipulating the speed, colours, brightness and direction.
