SGM's VPL Breathes Life Into Historic Downtown of Las Vegas

With its latest installation, SGM Light takes the image of "Vegas Lights" to the next level

With Shop12 of Steelman Partners, SGM Light recently completed a lighting installation that takes the image of "Vegas Lights" to the next level at the newest downtown casino in Las Vegas. Located adjacent to the Freemont Street Experience, Circa is positioned to breathe new life into historic downtown.

When considering an undertaking of this magnitude, the overall visual impact combined with logistical concerns of power and data coordination are huge. The VPL proved to be high impact, easy to design, and an easy to wire product for the project.

Not only a simple, but a highly impactful installation

The Circa Resort is one of the tallest buildings in Las Vegas with the hotel tower reaching 480 feet tall, 1.25 million square feet, and 512 rooms. Connected to the resort by a skybridge is the aptly named 9-story, 982 space parking garage: the Garage Mahal. SGM's pixel product puts the finishing touches on the Circa complex, tastefully grabbing the attention of passerby with dynamic pixel controlled media façade lighting.

Utilizing 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) of SGM's VPL (Video Pixel Linear) the dynamic façade welcomes visitors and guests with daylight visible media effects in circumference of the low rise entryway and Garage Mahal.

Using a simple Ethernet topology for data, SGM was able to wrap the low rise and garage with only 213 contractor termination points. SGM's support team adds, "Because each piece of VPL has its own intelligence, we are able to run impressive lengths of product from just one power/data box. In a typical 208 volt installation, we can run 200 feet."

This made the Circa project not only a simple installation, but a highly impactful one.

The Low Rise includes 13,195 feet of product, and 633,360 control channels in 1,237 universes, while the Garage Mahal is running 8,015 feet of VPL product, coming to a total of 384,720 control channels in 752 universes. With a project of this scale, easy installation was a necessity and SGM's VPL was the perfect fit for the project.

" NTA served as the network specialist and system integrater. It was a pleasure to work with the SGM product and team. The support was fast, detailed, and accessible." Nevin Edwards, NTA.
