SGM POI range brings magic to a charming town in the French Alps

Bourg-Saint-Maurice is a town located in the heart of the French Alps. Being a popular holiday destination, it attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world who come to enjoy skiing and other nature activities. The town is also known for its long and cold winters that are not so appealing to its local residents.

To add a bit of magic to the town's everyday life, the authorities decided to give its town hall a complete makeover, with lighting designer Boris Malesset - Prodbox Shows & Events in charge of the project. To achieve this transformation, Boris Malesset relied on the SGM POI range, selecting a total of 16 POI fixtures from the P-Series that provided an excellent result.

The SGM POI fixtures totally matched my requirements in terms of reliability and precision.

A meaningful town hall transformation

Boris Malesset is a self-taught lighting designer who loves challenges and always strives to achieve the highest levels of excellence through continuous learning and improvement in his work. His globe-spanning 28 years of experience in the field of lighting design, technical direction, and production allowed for an opportunity to try everything, from the EDM scene to the largest events across numerous entertainment branches, giving him a broad overview of the industry.

Boris Malesset believes that architectural lighting should make people dream and bring a touch of magic to everyday life, especially in winter when the night comes early. When working on the Town Hall project, his main goal was to give the city center a feel of celebration on a daily basis. To achieve that, he wanted to create a lighting design that would evolve throughout the year, marking the key dates on the calendar, but also complement the architectural lines of the building, and fit the aesthetics of the surroundings.

Considering the environment, Boris Malesset also wanted to conserve energy. He believes that in order to encourage the support of local residents, lighting should be environmentally friendly and automatically turn off overnight. Last but not least, he needed to make sure that the design would withstand extreme weather conditions, inevitable in the mountains, and that required going for the most durable fixtures.

The selected SGM fixtures from the POI range (14x P-2 POI and 2x P-10 POI) proved to be the ideal solution for this permanent outdoor installation as they ticked all the boxes; their high IP66 rating makes them resistant to the extreme mountainous climate, multiple beam angles ensure the necessary precision, and low power consumption makes them energy efficient and sustainable over time.

As Boris Malesset is very enthusiastic about the performance of the fixtures from the SGM POI range, he has no doubts about using them in the future for other architectural projects, but also for stage projects in extreme weather conditions. We are looking forward to enjoying his new creations.
